Sliding double column machining centers (portal machining centers)
JOHNFORD’s sliding double-column machining center can be customized in various sizes and parameters such as twin spindles, twin platforms and crossbeam travelling capability with W-axis.
The Johnford SDMC-11000-2H is a heavy-duty, high-performance Sliding Double-Column (Portal) Machining Center engineered by Roundtop Machinery Industries. This massive gantry-type machine is built for the extreme rigors of large-scale, high-precision applications like aerospace landing gear manufacturing. Featuring a moving gantry and a fixed-table layout, it provides virtually unlimited table load capacity and structural integrity for handling the heaviest workpieces.
Key Features
- Twin Ram Dual Spindles (2H): Equipped with a dual-path control system and twin milling heads to machine two parts simultaneously, doubling productivity.
- Massive Work Envelope: Features an extra-long 11,000 mm X-axis travel alongside a 3,200 mm Y-axis and 1,400 mm Z-axis.
- Twin Working Zones: 11,000 mm table length is separated by a manual divider. When doing the cutting job on one side, one can do the part loading/unloading on the other side. And then vice versa. This type of machine setup greatly reduces the cycle time.
- Exceptional Rigidity: Built with heavy-duty Meehanite cast iron structures and Turcite-B coated box ways to provide maximum vibration damping and long-term geometric accuracy.
- Advanced Multi-Axis Capabilities: Supports flexible head configurations, including standard 3-axis, 5-face automatic index heads, and continuous NC 2-axis heads for simultaneous 5-axis machining.
- High-Precision Control: Outfitted with high-precision closed-loop linear scales on the X-axis as standard to eliminate structural thermal deformation over long distances.
Efficient Chip & Contaminant Management: Utilizes dual screw conveyors paired with a caterpillar chain-type chip conveyor to rapidly clear massive volumes of chips from the working area.
